UNICEF Road to Awareness

‘Education empowers people with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to shape a better future’

This year, in addition to running the Check Out for Children guest fundraising program, Starwood EAME (the parent company of Westin Hotels and Resorts) aims to raise an extra US$250,000 through the Road to Awareness employee fundraising campaign. With this funding UNICEF will supply vital equipment and education materials for 58 schools in Pakistan and Romania.

I and a few dozen colleagues from our company are taking part in a cycling challenge in the French Alps. This year’s three-day tour will take riders over some of the most mythical climbs in the history of the Tour de France. In total, there are nine climbs on the menu. The highest climb is the Col de Galibier, which first featured on the Tour in 1911. All other climbs on our schedule are well known in the cycling world and have helped to make “La Grand Boucle” the premier event in cycling. Other climbs featured will be Col de la Madeleine, Col de Glandon, Col de Croix de Fer, Col d’Ornon, L’Alpe d’Huez and Col de la Sarenne.
The pinnacle of our challenge is the final stage of our three-day challenge, as we finish at the top of Les Deux Alpes, featured in several Tour de France stages and associated with the Marco Pantani annual memorial event. Over the three days, we will climb 160 kilometers and a gradient of 9,100 meters.

I really appreciate any contribution you are able to make. Many thanks!
