UNICEF's work for children
Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues,
As many of you know I am the co-founder of the Starwood EAME annual Road to Awareness fundraising effort. Since 2008, when our first bike ride took place, we have raised almost 1 million dollars in support of 3 UNICEF projects in Mozambique, Egypt and most recently South Africa.
Last year thanks to the generous contributions of our many hotels, sponsors and donators like you, we have managed to raise an incredible 450,000 USD in support of Schools for Africa (SFA), a project in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Institute. The 450,000 USD raised last year were used to support phase 2 of the SFA campaign in South Africa including direct support for 1,500 orphans and vulnerable children in 5 rural schools, training of 70 teachers and leadership training for 20 school principals, as well as sports for development activities in 18 schools.
I am very happy that I again will have the chance to take part in the Starwood Road to Awareness EAME Bike Ride 2011 which will take place in the French Alpes from the 22nd to the 24th of August 2011. The goal for the 2011 fund raising effort is to raise 250,000 USD with the objective this year to supply vital equipment and education materials for 58 schools in Pakistan and Romania.
This year’s three-day bike tour will take me over some of the most mythical climbs in the history of the Tour de France. In total we have 9 climbs on the menu including the famous Col de la Madeleine, Col de Telegraphe, Col de Galibier and the Alpe d’Huez. I hope you again will take on my challenge and support this fundraising effort! Thanks to your support, next year children in Romania and Pakistan will receive a better education and improve their prospects for the future.
Every donation will make a massive difference!
Education represents opportunity. At all ages, it empowers people with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to shape a better future. One extra year of schooling increases an individual’s earnings by up to 10%. Despite this, nearly 100 million children today do not get the chance to go to school. UNICEF works to ensure that every child gets the chance to go to school and that they are able to stay in school and receive a quality education.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my UNICEF fundraising page.
In advance – THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your support!!!
